  • May 5 — Alexander Shmidt (Russian: Шмидт Александр Владимирович), Russian soviet painter and graphic artist (b. 1911).
  • June 18 — Georgy Nissky (Russian: Нисский Георгий Григорьевич), Russian soviet painter (b. 1903).
